Klaus is a shameless hedonist who runs from his problems and suppresses his own powers with drugs. Ben frequently encourages Klaus to sober up or do the right thing, though with a resigned awareness that he won't be heeded. Nonetheless, he continues to try and persuade his brother make better decisions. He doesn't coddle Klaus when he fails or allow him to lie to himself about his faults. This can cause friction between them but despite their arguing, they are stuck with each other, and never go long without speaking. A deep and unshakeable love exists there, regardless of his brother's flaws and failures. He deals with Klaus's antics with a dry and frank sense of humour, when he isn't outright judging him. But he's only human and there is a limit. Ben refuses to enable any of Klaus's bad habits and can get frustrated by his antics. Verbal jabs at his undead state don't get under his skin any more than mild perturbation. However, when Klaus compares him to their father (a cruel figure whose memory haunts all his children), Ben loses his temper and punches his brother in the face. When the two of them discover that Ben can physically affect and later possess his brother, Ben ceaselessly begs him for an opportunity to do so. At a meeting with a younger version of their father, who has no knowledge of them, Ben becomes overwhelmed by his extant powerlessness and possesses Klaus without warning or consent, simply to shout that he is present. He has a capacity for selfishness, like anyone, and chances to act on it are exacerbated by the powerlessness that overshadows every other moment of his existence. Ben possesses Klaus on a second occasion, after much needling. They establish a list of Do's and Don't's, and then Ben goes for a joyride. He unabashedly partakes in as many delights of sensation as he can immediately pursue: breathing deeply, touching his own (brother's) body, running in the grass, rolling in the dirt, eating fresh fruit. He's finally able to talk to a follower of Klaus's cult that he was admiring from afar. He speaks honestly and openly with her. When she proposes they have sex, he tries to tell her that he's a virgin, and find the words to let her know he isn't Klaus. Their conversation is cut short before he can relate the true nature of their interaction. Shortly thereafter, he is ejected from Klaus's body and doesn't attempt to possess him again, though states he regrets nothing. Trapped in the passenger seat of someone else's life for nearly two decades, he throws himself wholeheartedly into whatever he can experience. Ben explicitly says, some time before his death, that he "never asked for this," referring to the superpower which earned him the codename The Horror. He is able to release enormous violent tentacles from his chest at will. On missions, he was tasked to eliminate groups of enemies, where civilian casualties would not be at risk. He left rooms splattered in blood from wall to wall and his entire body drenched in gore. Despite how horrifying this was for a child, Ben always complied, until it led to his death at age 16. The life of a crimefighting prodigy is all he's known and, like most children, he doesn't consider that there is another path out there to take. Similarly, Ben was afraid to move into the light of the afterlife, into the unknown, and allowed Klaus to summon his spirit of his own volition. While Klaus spends the rest of his life bearing the burden of this decision, believing he tethers his brother to a half-life at his side, Ben never clarifies this or asks for his help to move on. It's through the proxy of their sister Vanya that he eases Klaus's guilt with his final words. Klaus appropriately calls him a shithead for it. He explicitly misses all of his siblings. Once they're reunited in 1963, he tells them so even though they can't hear him -- and have been told by Klaus "ghosts can't time travel." While possessing Klaus, he has the chance to speak to Diego. After some convincing, Diego hugs him, which he gratefully returns and appears to sadly relish. When Vanya's powers are threatening to end the world, he is able to pseudo-possess her in order to enter her psyche. Within her mind, she's isolated herself out of fear and self-loathing. Ben is deeply understanding of how she's come to struggle so much with control, absolving her of guilt and forgiving her for her mistakes. Essentially, he's able to talk her down from a very destructive place, which their other siblings weren't able to do when she posed a similar threat the season prior. The strain of entering Vanya's mind while her powers are activated damages and dissolves the spectral tether that stops Ben from moving on. He tells Vanya that he's ready to go, that it's not her fault (nor was his staying Klaus's fault) and humbly asks her to hug him as he dissipates, as it had been so long since he felt an embrace in his own body. In his final moments, he is kind and compassionate, selfless and accepting. Powers: Ben can control the opening and closing of a dimensional portal in his chest, through which four gigantic eldritch tentacles emerge. In all ways, they resemble octopus tentacles. They behave independently of Ben's command, typically with mindless violence. It's my hope that an eventual A5 "power" reward for him can be a sort of mastery or taming of these tentacles, for which much freaky can be gotten.
